The Doctors at Maulana Azad Medical College have called for a strike after a duty doctor in the emergency ward was assaulted allegedly by a patient’s relative last night. The letter addressing the CCMO by the doctors mentions that doctors both in the emergency and the routine services are on a strike. According to an ANI update, the striking doctors will soon meet the administration to demand safety at the workplace. In the month of June, doctors’ strike started in Kolkata and intensified further with medicos across the country joining the stir. Seeking apology from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, several doctors at various hospitals in the state tendered their resignation to express solidarity with their protesting colleagues. The Central government also blamed Mamata Banerjee for the doctors’ strike.
